South Beach Wine & Food Festival

Get to the tents. More importantly, get home from them.

SOBEWFF is a walking, tasting, standing-in-sand kind of week. MB Hotel is 12 to 15 minutes north of the festival grounds, with two kitchens downstairs for the mornings after.

Location

The festival is south. Your bed does not have to be.

The South Beach Wine & Food Festival spreads across the South Beach sand, hotel ballrooms and restaurant dining rooms, with satellite events as far as the mainland. Almost none of it happens in the same place twice, which makes 'walking distance to the venue' a fiction — every attendee is riding somewhere.

Given that, the question is what you ride back to. MB Hotel is at 6525 Collins Avenue, about 12 to 15 minutes north of the main grounds, on a residential block where a late night ends quietly and a slow morning is possible.

The property does its own share of the eating. Caffe Frappe opens at 8:00am with crepes, salads and mimosas — genuinely the right menu for a festival week — and Kalypso holds the terrace beside the pool deck for the evening. Neither requires a ticket.

Why MB Hotel

The practical case for staying north.

Breakfast is downstairs at eight

Caffe Frappe runs crepes, salads and mimosas from 8:00am to 3:00pm. After a Grand Tasting, a hotel with a real breakfast beats one with a lobby coffee machine.

Nobody has to drive

Collins Avenue is one straight route between the grounds and the door, and rideshares run it all night. A festival week and a rental car are a bad combination. [VERIFY]

A quiet block to recover on

Mid-Beach is residential. There is no street noise at three in the morning, which is the difference between four festival days and three.

An evening off, on site

Kalypso's terrace and the pool deck cover the night you decide not to attend anything. Kalypso's service hours [VERIFY].
